Upgrading or retrofitting your facility's lighting? Call Ehling Electric at (267) 935-9336 for a lighting assessment.
Lighting is one of the largest controllable energy expenses in a commercial building — and one of the most straightforward to reduce. A well-executed LED retrofit in a warehouse or office building typically reduces lighting energy consumption by 50–70% compared to fluorescent systems, with payback periods of two to four years at current electricity rates. It also reduces maintenance costs, improves light quality, and can integrate with occupancy and daylight controls that reduce consumption further.
Ehling Electric designs and installs commercial lighting systems for new construction and provides LED retrofit services for existing facilities throughout Bucks County and Montgomery County. We handle the full scope: photometric design, fixture selection, installation, controls integration, and coordination with utility rebate programs that offset project cost.
New Construction Lighting
For new commercial construction, lighting design starts with the requirements for each space type — the footcandle levels required for the work being done, the color rendering index needed for the application, the fixture type that fits the ceiling construction, and the control strategy that will manage the system over time.
We work from your reflected ceiling plan and space program to develop a lighting layout that meets code and functional requirements, integrates with your building automation system if one is planned, and doesn't overlight spaces where overlighting is both wasteful and uncomfortable. We submit photometric calculations with the permit package where required and install to the approved design.
Office and Workspace Lighting Office lighting that reduces glare on screens, provides adequate task lighting without excessive ambient levels, and responds to occupancy and daylight harvesting controls. We install LED troffer, linear pendant, and direct-indirect fixtures for open office environments, with per-zone dimming and occupancy control as standard.
Warehouse and Industrial Lighting High-bay LED fixtures for warehouse and manufacturing environments, sized for the mounting height and the reflectance of the space. Motion-controlled high-bays in low-traffic areas like racking aisles can reduce lighting energy consumption by an additional 30–40% beyond the LED baseline. We design the fixture layout to the required footcandle level at the working plane — not the maximum the fixture can produce.
Retail Lighting Retail lighting has to do two things well: make the merchandise look the way it's supposed to look and make the space feel like a place people want to be in. We work with your brand standards and fixture specifications or help develop a lighting concept for independent retailers, with a bias toward high-CRI LED sources that render color accurately.
Exterior and Parking Lot Lighting Pole-mounted LED area lights, façade lighting, canopy lighting, and exit/emergency lighting for parking structures. We design to IES RP-20 standards for parking facilities and coordinate with your municipality on required photometric submittals.
LED Retrofit Services
If your facility is still running fluorescent or HID lighting, a retrofit is the highest-ROI electrical upgrade available. The economics are straightforward: LED fixtures use 50–70% less energy, last three to five times longer, and require significantly less maintenance labor over their service life.
What a Retrofit Involves A retrofit project starts with a facility walkthrough and audit — fixture count, existing lamp types and wattages, control systems in place, and utility billing data if available. We use that information to develop a replacement scope with projected energy savings and simple payback calculation.
Installation involves replacing existing fixtures with LED equivalents or installing LED retrofit kits into existing housings where appropriate. We handle all fixture disposal in compliance with applicable regulations for fluorescent lamp recycling.
Utility Rebates PECO Energy and PPL Electric offer rebate programs for commercial LED lighting upgrades that can offset 20–40% of project cost. We prepare the rebate documentation and submit on your behalf as part of the project scope.
Controls Upgrades A lighting retrofit is the right time to add occupancy sensors, daylight sensors, and networked dimming controls that weren't practical with fluorescent fixtures. We design the controls scope alongside the fixture replacement and install both in a single mobilization.
Lighting Controls
Lighting controls are the difference between a lighting system that runs on a schedule and one that responds to how the building is actually being used. We install:
Occupancy and Vacancy Sensors Ceiling-mounted and wall-switch sensors for private offices, conference rooms, restrooms, storage areas, and corridors. Vacancy sensors — which require manual activation but turn off automatically — are preferred for offices where ASHRAE 90.1 compliance is required.
Daylight Harvesting Photosensors that dim perimeter fixtures in response to available daylight. In buildings with significant glazing, daylight harvesting can reduce lighting energy use by an additional 20–30% in perimeter zones.
Networked Lighting Controls For larger facilities, networked lighting control systems allow zone-by-zone scheduling, remote monitoring, and integration with the building automation system. We install and commission systems from Lutron, Leviton, and Acuity Brands, and coordinate with your BAS contractor for integration.
Emergency and Exit Lighting Code-compliant emergency lighting and exit sign installation, testing, and documentation. We install battery-backed fixtures and central inverter systems for facilities that require illuminated egress paths under all conditions.
